It is kind of ridiculous how many hours and projects have passed while I procrastinate writing a new blog post! I'm not so sure if it is because I simply wish I could do work outside or because I can't decide what to write about since I have so much to say. Here we go. Nothing fancy, just time to get some words out to the universe! Banter begins....
Between the plants along the roadsides of Vermont that I couldn't identify, the variety of weather conditions, the new wildlife in the yard with our Squirrel Buster (thanks Santa!) I'm not sure where to begin. So for my own record, I need to remember ...
Something is eating the Sedum rupestre 'Angelina'! I love this sedum so much because it holds color throughout the winter, grows like crazy, adds color year round! I am so bummed! I think it's the bunnies, unless there are certain bugs that survive in the winter. When I checked on it a month ago I found a strange caterpillar that matched the color of the plant. Not happy! I put down something similar to Critter Ridder yesterday. Hopefully it keeps them away from the rest of it!
With the new camera lens I captured an image clear enough for my dad's birding friends to identify a species I didn't recognize myself and couldn't match it with anything in the bird book. The closest match to the bird I saw is typically found in the middle of the country only. (My dad has always loved birding, his dad loved birding, I never really cared too much.) I think the combination of the boyfriend also having some strange admiration for seeking new species combined with the accelerated activity on our new feeder has sparked the recent interest. But ... drum roll please... something about the birds interacting with the landscape I've spent so many hours working on brings a new aspect to how I see the garden. I will need to elaborate on this for my own record later. I wish I had the camera down here right now to take a picture of the squirrel nibbling on the pumpkin I dumped outside a few days ago. So do you want to know the bird that attracted birders from across Chester County to our driveway !!!?? Dickcissel. Yep.

INTERRUPTION! | Thursday, January 15, 2015. 2:14 PM |
Holy bird moment. As I sit at the kitchen table essentially forcing myself to write a blog entry... upload a picture of Ricky (Dickcissel) and out of the corner of my eye I see something at the same time I realized the birds had stopped making their noise. I am literally shaking right now, ha... yes, shaking... because I was so worried I wouldn't get to the camera in time to capture the hawk that was sitting above the Squirrel Buster. I went to snap a photo and there was no click! I realized the battery was in the charger! I did capture the hawk before it left. And now the two hawks are just straight up showing off. I'm convinced they are teasing me!.
Time to go pick up Chrysanthemum from school. I need to post photos of the plants I observed over the winter break before classes begin again.
