When I looked out the kitchen window yesterday morning and saw Red Squirrel methodically peeling down to the walnut I thought it was really cute and had a "nature is so cute" moment. Fast forward a few hours to picking up the walnuts out of the yard when I notice all the peel/skin/stuff up close! I should make a sign that says "Hey Hawks, Red Squirrel Eats Here, But If You Could Please Get The Mice First, That Would Be Wonderful!" Do you think that could work? I considered weighing the bag of walnuts just so I could add some more trivial information to the blog. Maybe today. I've been putting the walnuts in empty mulch bags because they can handle the weight and I do not want to see my hard work of walnut-picker-upping getting chewed on by Red Squirrel. I want to call Red Squirrel, "Red", but Orange is the New Black wins on this one. I just don't imagine Red Squirrel to be as ferocious as Red. (While we're on the topic of names, you should know that every chipmunk in the yard is named Chippy. Chippy has at least 14 entrances into the house. I don't keep track of how many holes are in the yard.) The bag of walnuts then goes to Skunk Hollow Park of course without the plastic bag. The picture on the right shows off the walnuts' potency! They stained my hands this much through the gardening gloves! Time to go pick up what's fallen since yesterday. And maybe go check in on a couple other gardens. Perfect weather today. ... |
