This grass was here when my boyfriend moved in. Watching it get bigger, and bigger, and bigger made it seem more and more generic too. I was at Wegman's a few weeks ago and noticed how they chopped their grasses. It looked kind of cool (of course it did.. in contrast to the dark empty parking lot and enormous building....) So last week while I was waiting to go into work, with no idea if they would need me in an hour or 20 minutes ... I grabbed a long sleep shirt and a hat, duct taped that stupid stupid grass, and chopped. To be honest I barely mind its new awkard shape. It just feels better to not have this monster looming over the other plants. And although I don't love the placement of our verticle element here (the remaining grass at front), I like observing it everyday in proportion to the grass that once toppled over it. If you look carefully at either photo above, you will see the gap between hacked grass and the remaining grass. This clump was about 18" wider last year. I pulled out some of it this spring. I can't believe I even planted it. I'm not trying to look like a grocery store parking lot! What am I trying to look like ? The good news about chopping the grass - I finally added the little path I've sketched so many times. Can't wait to see how it all fills in. I know you're excited, too! Have I mentioned my hosta is still blooming!? |
