I could probably sit here all day and watch everything grow. Never before - never say never... I was starting to say never before have I been SO curious and excited all at once but as soon as I started to say that I remember photos of myself as a child peeking at the ground, awkwardly hunched over to investigate signs of life.
"My garden" ( I use the quotes because we rent, and one day this garden will belong to someone else) is a mixed bag of Costco shrubs, late summer Mostardi sale perennials, and handouts from my mom and dad's. The last of which are probably my favorite. Tucked away in what I like to think of as a secret hideout, (my parents' house where I grew up), occasionally referred to as "Siberia" by my mother as the rest of the area warms up to spring and we still have snow on the ground (luckily, yes, the snow is gone now) - tucked away in the woods there are huge ferns which I will ID one day, there are volunteer Acer somethings (will ID those, too), little treats and treasures everywhere. Waiting for some Siberian transplants to open here where I sit is maybe too satisfying but I guess that is for me to decide.
Its funny to sit here outside while cars rush past the house and get teary eyed over plants! What's my problem!? I think I am just so grateful for something that is so present in the daily life of many people, but maybe not. Watching and waiting for the hosta and for the huge ferns to uncurl and open up to the world makes me so excited. The 6' tall volunteer Acer something (some kind of maple tree) just opened it's leaves in my "peeking" garden out front. I think the hosta I took from Miss Patti's opened since I sat down, too. If anyone happens to notice the tears on my cheeks as they speed past our little house on the hill at 50mph I hope they know they are little droplets of thanks to the universe. I love my grandfather. That is all. Time to go lay some mulch in Havertown. Watch out Mostardi's, mulch girl is on her way over!
